Days here

Things to do, or blissful nothing

Fill the days with safaris, birds and villages — or claim the hammock. Both are fully supported by the management.

Jeep safari into Chilapata

The headline act. Sal forest, elephant country and the Nal Rajar Garh ruins — arranged end-to-end by us.

Birdwatching from the veranda

70+ species listed on the property itself. Early tea, binoculars, and a guide if you want one.

Birding guide →

Bania riverside evenings

Cycle or walk to the river for sunset. Winter brings a shallow, walkable bank perfect for wading.

Village & paddy walks

An hour through Rava bastis, paddy fields and areca groves with a village guide (₹300, goes to the village fund).

Bonfire nights

₹800 an evening, snacks included. In winter it runs most nights — the stars do the rest of the show.

Tea-garden drives

Kumargram and Kalchini estates 20–50 minutes away. Go before 9 am for soft light and pluckers at work.

Stargazing

Village skies, zero light pollution. We keep two mats and a star chart by the bonfire.

Cooking with our cook

Help shelling peas, grinding masala or flipping luchis — dinner tastes different when you made it.

A day, roughly

What a Chilapata day feels like

  1. 5:45 am

Bed tea in the dark, birds waking up louder than the alarm

  2. 6:30 am

Safari jeep takes the morning slot — or the veranda takes you

  3. 9:00 am

Big breakfast; plans for the day get drawn in the last bite

  4. 1:00 pm

Lunch, then the culturally mandated afternoon nap

  5. 4:00 pm

River, village or tea garden — the light turns golden

  6. 7:30 pm

Bonfire, dinner, and a sky you will not get at home
