How to reach Chilapata Eco Hut
Three easy ways to get to the forest edge — plus a pickup service that meets your train with hot chai.
Best for most travellers
By train — Hasimara or Alipurduar Junction
- Hasimara (HSA): ~10 km from the hut, 20 min pickup — trains on the NJP–Alipurduar line
- Alipurduar Junction (APDJ): ~22 km, 35–40 min — the widest train choice
- New Jalpaiguri (NJP): ~145 km, 4–5 hrs by road — the region’s biggest station
- Overnight trains from Kolkata/Delhi reaching early morning lose you no daylight
Fastest from metro cities
By air — Bagdogra (IXB)
- Direct flights from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru
- ~150 km to the hut: 4–4.5 hours by car through tea country
- One-way pickup from ₹4,500–5,500 by car type
- Alternative: fly to Bagdogra, train onward from NJP
The classic road trip
By road — Siliguri & beyond
- Siliguri → Gairkata → Hasimara: ~150 km on NH-31D, 4 hrs
- From Madarihat/Jaldapara side: 25–30 min on good forest roads
- From Kalimpong/Dooars hill towns: via Malbazar and Gairkata
- Free parking at the hut; the last stretch is village road — drive slow, horn for turns
