Guest questions

Frequently asked, honestly answered

Everything guests ask before booking — booking, food, safaris, network, payments and the occasional elephant.

How do I book a stay at Chilapata Eco Hut?

Message us on WhatsApp or call us with your dates and room choice. We hold your dates for 24 hours while you pay a small advance through UPI. You receive a written confirmation with directions and our contact details — there are no booking fees or middlemen.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 12:00 noon and check-out is by 10:00 am. If you are arriving earlier, tell us in advance — we can usually store your luggage and serve tea while the room is prepared. Late check-out is possible when we have no back-to-back bookings.

Is food included in the tariff?

No — rooms are charged room-only, and meals are a separate ₹650 per person for the whole day (breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner). Breakfast is puri-sabji with a boiled egg and tea; lunch is rice, dal, sabji, bhaja and fish; evening snacks are pakoda with tea or coffee; dinner is rice, dal, sabji, bhaja and chicken. A pure-veg thali is available, and mutton or egg preparations are charged extra on order.

Can you arrange the Chilapata jungle safari for us?

Yes. Tell us one day in advance and we book the jeep and permits for the morning or afternoon slot and pick you up from our gate. Carry original photo ID for every traveller — the forest department requires it for permits.

When is the best time to visit Chilapata?

October to March is the prime season — clear skies, active wildlife and pleasant nights. April–May is warmer but good for birdwatching. The monsoon (June–September) turns everything green, though parts of the forest remain closed; check with us before planning a rainy-season trip.

How do I reach the homestay?

Hasimara station is about 10 km away, Alipurduar Junction about 22 km, and Bagdogra airport roughly 150 km. We arrange pickups from all three, and from New Jalpaiguri on request. See the How to Reach page for routes by train, air and road.

Is parking available?

Yes, free parking inside the property gate, with space for bikes and cars. If you are arriving by train, skip the car — our pickup and local sightseeing by hired vehicle usually works out cheaper.

Will I get mobile network and Wi-Fi?

Jio and Airtel 4G generally work on the property; other networks can be patchy. Wi-Fi is available in the common area — fast enough for messages and browsing, but this is a forest-edge village, so treat streaming as a bonus, not a promise. Power cuts are common in the Dooars, so an inverter keeps the lights and fans running when the grid dips.

What payment methods do you accept?

UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm) and cash. We do not have a card machine — the nearest ATM is in Alipurduar or Hasimara, so plan cash for extras like bonfire and tips.

Is the homestay suitable for couples and families?

Both. It is a quiet, owner-hosted property where couples get privacy and families get open space. The two double-bed cottages suit couples; the larger cottage with two double beds suits a family of four. We do not host loud parties, and after 10 pm the only sounds should be crickets and the forest.

Are pets allowed?

Well-behaved pets are welcome with prior notice, as we have free-ranging poultry and occasional forest visitors. Keep pets leashed near the forest edge, especially at dawn and dusk.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel 7 or more days before check-in and your advance is fully refunded. Within 7 days, the advance moves to a future booking within 12 months. During peak dates (Christmas–New Year, Durga Puja) we ask for the first night as a non-refundable holding amount — the exact terms are always confirmed in writing when you book.
